From Printing Town to Paper Engineering: The Anna Mei Story | PaperJazz

Introduction

I have worked with paper for more than twenty years.

My journey did not begin with furniture design or sustainability trends. It started in 2003 in Longgang, Wenzhou, one of China's largest printing and paper manufacturing centers.

At that time, paper was simply the material we worked with every day.

But over the years, through countless production challenges, design experiments and customer projects, I gradually realized something:

Paper is not just a disposable material.

With the right engineering and design, paper can become furniture, lighting, commercial displays and sustainable solutions that shape the way people experience spaces.

This belief became the foundation of PaperJazz.

From Manufacturing Experience to Paper Innovation

Learning Paper Through Production

In the early years, our work focused on traditional paper manufacturing processes, including:

  • Printing
  • Die-cutting
  • Folding
  • Gluing
  • Assembly

These processes looked simple from the outside, but every step required precision.

One of the earliest lessons I learned came from a production failure. Some materials did not perform as expected, causing losses on customer orders.

Many people would have considered this a reason to leave the industry.

Instead, I saw it differently.

The difficulty itself represented an opportunity.

Few companies wanted to solve these complex paper manufacturing problems. That gap became the starting point of our journey.

Moving Beyond Manufacturing

Why We Needed to Change

For many years, I was deeply involved in factory operations.

I worked with teams to solve production issues, manage schedules and improve manufacturing efficiency.

The business grew, but eventually I recognized a limitation:

A factory that only follows market demand will always compete on production capability and price.

To create long-term value, we needed to move beyond manufacturing.

The future was not only about making products.

It was about creating products.

This realization changed the direction of PaperJazz.

We began focusing more on:

  • Product development
  • Design capability
  • Supply chain integration
  • Brand building

The goal was to become more than a manufacturer.

We wanted to become a product innovation partner.

Seeing Paper Differently

Paper Is More Than a Disposable Material

A turning point came when I spent time observing how paper was used in European markets.

In shops, restaurants, homes and seasonal displays, I noticed something important:

Paper was not treated as a cheap material.

It was used as a design language.

It created atmosphere.

It communicated sustainability.

It became part of the customer experience.

This changed my understanding of paper completely.

I returned with a simple belief:

Paper deserves the same design attention and engineering thinking as other materials.

Building Paper Engineering Capability

Turning Paper Into Functional Products

Paper products require more than creativity.

They require engineering.

At PaperJazz, we focus on understanding how paper structures can achieve both visual appeal and practical performance.

Our honeycomb paper structures use thousands of interconnected cells to distribute force across the surface.

This allows lightweight products to achieve impressive strength.

Our paper furniture collections include:

  • Honeycomb paper stools
  • Paper benches
  • Paper display furniture
  • Folding paper furniture
  • Sustainable interior solutions

Some honeycomb structures have been load-tested up to 300 kg.

The flat-pack design also creates practical advantages for global buyers by reducing storage space and transportation volume.

For international brands, sustainability is not only about materials.

It is also about logistics efficiency.

Sustainability as a Responsibility

Creating Products With Respect for Resources

As a company working with paper, we believe sustainability is not a marketing message.

It is a responsibility.

PaperJazz supports:

  • FSC-certified paper options
  • Responsible material sourcing
  • BSCI and SEDEX/SMETA social compliance requirements
  • EUDR-related documentation support for European customers

We believe sustainable products should consider the entire journey:

From material selection.

To production.

To transportation.

To the final customer experience.

From Supplier to Solution Partner

Supporting Brands From Concept to Production

Today, PaperJazz works with customers who are looking for more than a traditional supplier.

Our role is to help transform ideas into market-ready products.

We support projects through:

  • Concept development
  • Structural design
  • Material selection
  • Prototype development
  • Sample validation
  • Mass production
  • Packaging solutions
  • International delivery

Whether it is sustainable paper furniture, decorative lighting or commercial display solutions, we focus on creating products that match each customer's market needs.

Looking Ahead

The Future of Paper Innovation

The paper industry continues to change.

Products become more similar.

Competition based only on price becomes harder.

We believe the future belongs to companies that create unique value.

At PaperJazz, we are continuing to explore:

  • Sustainable furniture solutions
  • Paper-based interior applications
  • Commercial space products
  • Innovative paper structures
  • Custom product development

Our goal is simple:

To help brands discover new possibilities with paper.

The Meaning Behind PaperJazz

Paper as a Material. Jazz as an Attitude.

The name PaperJazz represents how we see this material.

Paper is the medium.

Jazz represents creativity, flexibility and expression.

Just like jazz music, paper can be transformed through different structures, forms and ideas.

Every product begins with the same question:

What else can paper become?

Our belief is:

Creativity embellishes beautiful life.

This sentence has always guided our work.
